The University of Saint Mary education programs are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the Kansas State Board of Education (KSBoE). This accreditation covers both initial and advanced educator preparation programs. CAEP is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit programs for the preparation of teachers and other professional school personnel. Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) program review and KSBoE accreditation is required for programs leading to Kansas teacher licensure.

The University of Saint Mary has received specialized accreditation for its business and business-related programs through the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE), Olathe, Kansas. The following degree programs are accredited by the IACBE:

The Master of Science in Athletic Training program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), 6850 Austin Center Boulevard, Suite 100, Austin, TX, 78731-3184, 512-733-9700 or toll free 844-462-2283.

The entry-level Occupational Therapy doctoral degree program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 6116 Executive Boulevard, Suite 200, North Bethesda, MD 20852-4929. ACOTE’s telephone number c/o AOTA is (301) 652-AOTA and its web address is www.acoteonline.org Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). In addition, all states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.

The Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology program has three professional tracks approved for state licensure:

  • Kansas Behavioral Sciences Review Board: Licensed Master’s Level Psychologist; Licensed Professional Counselor
  • Missouri Committee for Professional Counselors: Licensed Professional Counselor

The Master of Arts in School Counseling is accredited by the Kansas State Board of Education (KSBoE) through the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) program review process and accreditation.

The University of Saint Mary Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) Board of Accreditation (BOA). Accreditation of a baccalaureate social work program by the BOA indicates that it meets or exceeds standards of program quality evaluated through a peer review accreditation process. An accredited program has sufficient resources to meet its mission and goals and the BOA has verified that it demonstrates compliance with all sections of the Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS). Accreditation provides reasonable assurance about the quality of the program and the competence of students graduating from the program.

The University of Saint Mary Master in Social Work (MSW) program has achieved Candidacy for Accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education’s Commission on Accreditation. Candidacy for a masters in social work program by the Council on Social Work Education’s Commission on Accreditation indicates that it has made progress toward meeting criteria for the assessment of program quality evaluated through a peer review process. A program that has attained Candidacy has demonstrated a commitment to meeting the compliance standards set by the Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards but has not yet demonstrated full compliance. Students who enter the programs that attain Candidacy in or before the academic year in which they begin their program of study will be retroactively recognized as having graduated from a CSWE-accredited program once the program attains Initial Accreditation. Candidacy is typically a three-year process and attaining Candidacy applies to all program sites and program delivery methods of an accredited program. Accreditation provides reasonable assurance about the quality of the program and the competence of students graduating from the program.
