ACOTE's Disclosure Statement regarding Probationary Accreditation Action:

On December 16, 2024, ACOTE notified USM of a change in the accreditation status of the program to CONTINUING ACCREDITATION-PROBATIONARY.

The occupational therapy doctoral program at the University of Saint Mary-Leavenworth, Leavenworth, Kansas, was placed on Probationary Accreditation effective December 6, 2024, for failure to document significant progress toward correction of areas of noncompliance related to 2018 OTA Standards A.2.3. (Faculty qualifications) and A.2.9. (Sufficient faculty).

The program has been requested to submit a Plan of Correction to return the program to full compliance with the Standards within the mandated time period for correction.

Graduates of the program will remain eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). In addition, all states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate's ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.
