Catalog Requirements: Progress Toward Degree

Graduate and Doctorate students have five years from their initial enrollment to complete degree requirements (seven years for students in graduate level Counseling Psychology).

All graduate/doctorate degree-seeking students with “Regular Status” must maintain at least a cumulative grade point average of 3.00. A student whose cumulative GPA falls below 3.00 will be placed on academic probation by the program. Probationary status must be resolved within the next six credit hours, or the student will be dismissed from the program. Grades below “C” are not applied to any graduate or doctorate degree.

Graduate/doctorate degree-seeking students will be automatically dismissed from the program when a grade of “F” or more than two “C” grades are earned in any graduate or doctorate level course. A student may appeal this dismissal, but readmission is at the discretion of the program. If the student is allowed to continue in the program as a result of the appeal, he/she must retake the course in which the grade of “F” was received and pass with a grade of “B” or better. This course may be retaken one time and if these requirements are not met, the student will be dismissed from the program and this dismissal will be final. The newer grade will be the only grade figured into the grade point average, but the grade of “F” will remain on the transcript. Students being reinstated into the program should take the course in question prior to pursuing other coursework. However, when circumstances warrant, details regarding how and when the course will be retaken will be addressed on a case by case basis.
