HI 215 The American Civil War
This course is centered on the American Civil War and will explore this consequential conflict in four thematic areas: the cause and origins of the Civil War, the major military conflicts, leaders, and troops involved in the war, how Civil War impacted American society, culture, politics, and economics, and how the North and South reconciled and made decisions of how to commemorate and remember the conflict in the 150 plus years since the end of the conflict. Students do not need any prior history courses at the college level and will be given instruction on how to think critically as a historian in a manner that applies learning to our civic society. Open to all students. For majors, this will be categorized under the Americas concentration.
