PY 773 Internship in School Counseling I
Interns will complete a supervised 300-clock hour experience at an approved PK-12 school site or sites that offer opportunities to deliver a comprehensive school counseling program to all students. The intern will provide a minimum of 120 hours of services directly with students including individual and group counseling, instruction in the social-emotional, career, and academic domains, and appraisal and advisement. Additionally, interns will consult and collaborate with parents, teachers and others, and refer internally or within the community as needed in meeting the needs of students, as well as completing activities that define, deliver, manage, and assess a data-informed, results-based comprehensive school counseling program for the school. Intern duties and responsibilities are equivalent to those of a regularly employed licensed school counselor. In general, the successful completion of this experience will enable the prospective school counselor to function as the leader and coordinator of a comprehensive school counseling program, grades PK-12. An approved on-site supervisor (licensed school counselor with at least two years' experience as a school counselor) will provide weekly individual supervision; group supervision is provided by the faculty supervisor.
