Transfer Credits

Up to nine graduate hours (3 courses) may be transferred to the program, provided the courses with which the hours are associated are substantially equivalent to the University of Saint Mary graduate courses. If students wish to receive transfer credit, they may be asked to submit syllabi for those courses. The Director of Graduate Nursing Programs will determine equivalency of nursing courses. The Director of Graduate Business Programs will determine equivalency of business courses. The University reserves the right to deny course transfers if they are not equivalent. Credit hours for MGT 714 Global Management and MGT 795 Strategic Management and Ethics may be not transferred into the program. Requests for transfer credit are subject to the requirements described under the academic policies of graduate division (see Transfer of Credit Guidelines in the graduate section of this catalog).

Program Structure and Sequence

The curriculum is sequenced in such a manner as to allow program completion in two to three years depending on the pace that the student takes classes. Courses are taught on a year-round 8-week basis with a six-term schedule: Fall I, Fall II, Spring I, Spring II, Summer I, and Summer II.

Two courses in the MBA program, MGT 714 Global Management and MGT 795 Strategic Management and Ethics are summative management courses. Students who earn a grade lower than "B" in either of these courses must repeat them.

Registration Policies

  • Students may not be enrolled in more than two classes per 8-week term.

Prerequisites

  • For students without a background in business, up to three online courses in writing, economics, and statistics will be made available after the student has been admitted and accepted into the program if students feel they need further development in these areas. The online leveling courses are self-paced and are strongly recommended before the student registers for classes.
  • Students will not be permitted to waive course prerequisites.

Incomplete Grades

Incompletes are granted only in highly exceptional circumstances. Incomplete grades are only issued to students in consultation with their academic advisor and approval by the Program Director and Division Chair. Students who are working to satisfy an incomplete grade in a class will not be allowed to register for other courses until the Incomplete course is resolved and the final grade recorded.

Progression and Graduation

  • Students must fulfill all graduation requirements.
  • Students must maintain a cumulative graduate GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
  • One course grade of "C" is allowed in the MSN Nurse Administrator program if the cumulative GPA does not fall below 3.00. A course grade of "F" or a second course grade of "C" will result in dismissal from the program. A student may appeal this dismissal, but readmission is at the discretion of the of the program director. The course in which an "F" grade was received must be retaken and passed with the grade of "B" or higher. Students reinstated into the program should take the course in question prior to other coursework, but this may be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
  • There is a University policy of no "D" grades for graduate level courses. Probationary status is possible for GPAs less than 3.00, with approval of the program director. This must be removed within 6 credit hours or may result in dismissal from the program.

Dismissals, Appeals and Readmission

Students who are dismissed, or withdraw from the program, may apply for readmission one time only. Students will be required to complete a new application. Applications for readmission will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and all will require a statement by the student explaining the circumstances of their departure, the previous difficulties, and a plan of action to ensure success with the readmission. Students must also provide any new transcripts if they have taken additional courses from other universities in the interim.
