TH 316 Feminist Theologies
Feminist theologians are committed to lifting up women's experiences of God. Their work develops in response to shifting social perceptions, in an effort to identify and address spiritual needs that have yet to be met adequately. Reaching into women's lived experiences, feminist theology is anchored in and flows from particular cultures and communities. Authentic feminism does not take an anti-male stance. Rather, it challenges historical and contemporary imbalances of power by revealing and naming them. It offers alternative, collaborative models that focus on appreciation of and respect for diverse relationships and values. As a theological endeavor, feminist scholarship explores the dignity of every creature as a beloved image of God. Consistent with those values, this course celebrates women's creative, faithful, insightful images of God. Collectively these contributions challenge dehumanizing, hierarchical systems and structures.
