Course Load
The normal undergraduate student course load per semester is 15-16 credit hours. The minimum for full-time students in fall and spring terms is 12 hours; the maximum is 18 hours. Three-quarter time is 9-11 credit hours, half-time is 6-8 credit hours, and less than half-time is 1-5 credit hours.
To carry more than the maximum load, undergraduate students must obtain approval from the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. Ordinarily students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 for approval to be granted. The overload approval request form is available on eSpire or in the Registrar’s Office. Credits in excess of the maximum in fall and spring semesters are subject to an additional fee per credit hour. The following courses will not be assessed the excess credit hour fee: private music lessons, music ensembles, Honors Seminars, VL 100 Vincentian Leadership, and NSMA 190 Science and Mathematics Undergraduate Research Forum.
Graduate/Doctorate students are considered full-time when enrolled in 6 or more credit hours in an academic semester. Graduate/Doctorate students enrolled for courses totaling 3 to 5 credit hours are considered half-time.
