Emphasis
At the undergraduate level, an emphasis represents a required secondary field of study for a degree-seeking student. An emphasis is a structured plan of study requiring nine credit hours of unique credits beyond the program core curriculum. An emphasis does not appear on transcripts.
Concentration/Specialization
At the undergraduate level, a concentration/specialization represents a required secondary field of study for a degree-seeking student. A concentration/specialization is a structured plan of study requiring a minimum of 12 credit hours beyond the program core curriculum. Concentrations/Specializations appear on the official transcript. The term concentration is the preferred term unless an accrediting body designates otherwise.
